Mr. Herbert Ross Whaley, 94, of Grant, AL, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Marshall Medical Center North in Guntersville, AL.  Funeral services are Friday, July 8, 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel with interment in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL at 2:00 p.m.  Pallbearers are Glen Coggin, Ralston Coggin, Danny Acklin, Gary Whaley, Jr., Jonathan Whaley, Jim Whaley, John Whaley, Jr., and Tyler Whaley.  The family will receive friends at Grant Memorial Chapel Thursday, July 7, 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. 

Mr. Whaley was born in Tennessee on Aprill 3, 1917 to John and Mary Alice Bailey Whaley.  He is survived by sons, Johnny Whaley of Athens, Gary Whaley and wife Cindy of Murfresboro, TN, and Jimmy Whaley and wife Bobby of Grant; daughters, Barbara Acklin and husband Kenneth of New Market, and Sharon Buchanan and husband Johnny of Gurley, AL; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, Benton Whaley of Hopkinsville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Beatrice McNeese Whaley and parents, John and mary Alice Bailey Whaley.
