Mrs. Billie Ann Segler

Billie Ann Segler, a beloved mother, grandmother, and avid Alabama football fan passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the age of 80. She was born in Bessemer, Alabama to Arvol W. Bush, Sr. and Amelia Essman Bush. Billie was the President of her graduating class at Odenville High School. After graduation she attended and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Alabama. A teacher for 33 years, Billie spent her life enriching the lives of many students before retiring from Kate Duncan Smith DAR School. During her career, she served as a Home Economics teacher, third grade teacher, and second grade teacher. She also lived a dedicated life to church and church activities. Throughout the years, she has been involved with the Grant First Baptist Church, serving as an ACTeen leader; involved with New Life Methodist Church in Grant as a communion stewardess; a member of Guntersville First Methodist Church; and a member of the Grant Bible Church. She was an avid reader and especially loved being a part of the Ladies Bible Study groups. Billie was also a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Gunter’s Mountain Chapter of the DAR. Billie was dedicated to her family. Although she was an alumnus and huge Crimson Tide fan, she always cheered for Auburn because her grandchildren, Jack and Josie, went there. She spent many years watching Jack play baseball and Josie dance. She also made sure that they did not go hungry. She enjoyed birds and birdwatching, as she had many birdfeeders. But something she really enjoyed was MLF-Major League Fishing. She made sure to follow and keep up with all that was going on in the professional fishing world. Among her many friends and former students, Billie’s memory is cherished by her loving daughter, Melissa Segler Clay; her beloved grandson, Jack Clay and his fiancé, Mary Grace Johnson; her beloved granddaughter, Josie Christine Clay and her fiancé, Christopher Alan Lane, Jr.; her sister, Sharon Bush Kleeschulte; and her niece, Amber Kleeschulte Richard and her husband, Scott. In her passing, she was reunited with her parents, Arvol W. Bush, Sr.; her mother & step-father, Amelia E. & Andrew Maynard; her brother, A.W. Bush, Jr.; and her brother-in-law, David Kleeschulte. Friends may visit with the family at Grant Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 6th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Billie’s life will begin at 12 p.m. Rev. Joey Croft will officiate. Jack Clay and Josie Clay will also offer scripture readings. Following the service, burial will be in Free Home Cemetery. Arrangements Entrusted to Grant Memorial Chapel
