Mrs. Clara Sue Powell

Clara Sue Forrest Powell of Guntersville, Alabama left this life peacefully on November 17, 2015 after complications of a stroke. Her husband, L. Roger Powell survives, as well as children, Elaine Mahler of Afton, Virginia; Janice Bales and husband Mark, also of Afton; David Powell and wife Rhonda, of Grant, Alabama. There are four grandchildren: Ashley Hunt and husband, Jerel of Grant; Nathan Powell and wife Amy of Cokersville, Alabama; Laura Boyd and husband Daniel of Sparta, Tennessee and Rachael Mahler of Guntersville. There are four great grandchildren; Annie Ruth and Jon Grayson Hunt, Levi Powell and Carolaine Boyd. She was born February 27, 1935 in Mocksville, North Carolina earned her P.H.T.(putting husband through) from David Lipscomb College in Nashville Tennessee in 1961. Mrs. Powell lived in the Shenandoah Valley in Waynesboro, Virginia for about 50 years and has lived in Guntersville, Alabama since 2010. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ all her life having been in a family in the church for 5 generations. A true servant and minister’s wife, she accompanied her husband to gospel meetings, taught children’s and ladies classes and worked tirelessly anywhere her many talents were needed. She had special loves for singing, working with flowers, gardening, but especially being with children and all her family. Her home was always open. Memorial Service will be Friday at 3:00pm at Grant Memorial Chapel in Grant, Alabama. The family will receive friends at 2:00pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution are requested to Grant Church of Christ Camp Scholarship Fund at 4197 Cathedral Caverns Hwy, Grant, Alabama 35747.
