Dr. Howard Stansell (Stan) Banton, III, passed away in his sleep at his home on Lake Guntersville on the evening of December 27th, 2015. He had celebrated his 70th birthday the previous day surrounded by his immediate family. A resident of Guntersville, AL since 1984, Dr. Banton was born in Birmingham, AL to Dr. Howard Stansell (Buck) Banton, Jr. and Margaret Bitz Banton on December 26th, 1945. Dr. Banton grew up in his beloved Union Springs, AL, went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master’s Degree from Auburn University, and completed his Doctorate Degree from Georgia State University. Dr. Banton had two children of whom he was extremely proud: son, Robert Michael Banton and daughter, Julia Elizabeth Banton Agan. Dr. Banton taught Economics and Finance at several schools, to include the University of Tennessee, Mississippi State University, and the University of Alabama-Huntsville. After leaving academia, Dr. Banton started a highly successful Real Estate Appraisal firm in Huntsville. He was a forefather and inventor of one of the earliest commercially available automated valuation models. Dr. Banton was esteemed within the Real Estate community and was well known for his expertise, experience, and quirky sense of humor. He was loved and admired by many for his independent spirit, his tenacity, and his unwillingness to quit. Dr. Banton is preceded in death by his mother and father, and he is survived by his two children, Rob (Lori) and Julie (Danny); his grandchildren, Emily Nicole Banton, Anna Mathis Agan, and Danny Joe Agan, III; his sister, Rebecca Banton Cleveland (Jerry), niece, Rachel Cleveland, nephew, Jacob Cleveland, step-brother, Cope Lawrence, step-sister, Lisa Banton Helms (Randy), and step-mother, Penelope (Penny) Banton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to the NRA at nrafoundation.org, or any organization that seeks to defeat Hillary Clinton in the next Presidential race.
