Mrs. Mildred Martin Willmon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mildred Martin Willmon passed away at her home in Grant, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Mildred was born in Swearengin, Alabama on January 19, 1946. She lost her dad at an early age and worked to help raise her siblings by working in the fields and picking cotton. She received the Holy Ghost in 1962 and has been a member of Oak Grove Holiness Church for seventy years. She married David Myrle Willmon on June 1, 1963. They travelled the world together and she truly enjoyed fishing and was very good at it. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage next month. She was also a 1964 graduate of KDS DAR High School. Mildred was a hardworking woman and enjoyed working in her sewing and macrame shop for a few years. Later, she worked alongside her husband at Peoples State Bank as a bookkeeper for several years. She had a passion for gardening and worked hard in her flower gardens. She could make the smallest twig grow into a beautiful flower. She was an amazing cook and baker-teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family over the years. She also held a love for animals throughout her life. Her love for her family was evident in all she accomplished. Spending time with her family was her favorite thing to do. She succeeded in being a wonderful wife, amazing mother, and cherished grandmother and great grandmother. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, David Myrle Willmon; mother, Annie Martin; father, Cress Martin; and her brother, Sonny Martin. She is survived by her son, Chris Willmon; daughter, Suzanne Willmon; son, Tim Parmer (Beth); grandchildren, Maegan Willmon (Orlando McRae), Emily Daugette (Cody), Trevor Willmon (Alex), Lindsey Patterson (Bo), Robert Atchley Willmon, Mary Beth Parmer, and Luke Parmer; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Jerry Martin (Pam); sister, Evelyn Troup (Charles); sister, Patricia Franks; sister, Brenda Ferguson; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, May 20, 2022 at Grant Memorial Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Her body will lie-in-state Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Oak Grove Holiness Church from 1-2 p.m. A service celebrating her life will follow at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Bro. Nicky Willmon and Bro. Ollie Taylor.
