Truman David Wright of the Swearengin community passed away Tuesday, January 26th, in his home on Truman Wright Road near Grant. He was 81. He had struggled with Parkinson’s disease for several years, and recently suffered a stroke. Mr. Wright was born in the Swearengin community on June 13, 1934, the son of the late Robert Bentley ‘Boy’ and Mary Kennamer Wright. He spent most of his life cattle farming on Gunter Mountain, however, Mr. Wright had a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Alabama and was the school principal at New Hope High School in the mid-to-late sixties. Many may also remember him as a Farm Bureau insurance agent or as a volunteer Poll Worker for Wright’s Beat. Mr. Wright was an Army veteran of the Korean War, as well as a member of, and long-time song leader at, the Swearengin Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Anne Hunt Wright, as well as two brothers, Olen Wright and Paul Wright. He is survived by brothers Joseph Wright (Decatur) and Charles Wright (Rogersville), sisters Eunice Thomas (Scottsboro), Lois Brumlow (Huntsville), and Christine Ferrell (Huntsville); and five children: Sherrie Holt (Jim) of Grant, Elizabeth Jarmon (Tim) of Oxford, David Wright (Lisa) of Grant, Victoria Barnes (Lorne) of Grant, and Jonathan Wright (Amanda) of Huntsville; seventeen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Mr. Wright was a history buff and loved to relay stories told to him as a child about local residents and family members. Some of his stories have been published in the Advertiser Gleam in years past. Family Visitation will be Friday, January 29th, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Grant Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at the Swearengin Church of Christ on Saturday, January 30th at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at the New Prospect Cemetery in Swearengin. Grant Memorial Chapel directing.
