Mr. Vernon Ray Newton

January 28, 1933 - January 11, 2021

Mr. Vernon Ray Newton, a resident of the Swearengin community, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021, at his residence. He was born to John Mitchell and Ada Headrick Newton in 1933. Mr. Newton served in the United States Army, including the Korean War. Visitation for Mr. Newton will be on Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, at Grant Memorial Chapel with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Shirley Byrum and Bro. LaVon Stone officiating. Interment will be in New Prospect Cemetery in the Swearengin community. Mr. Newton leaves behind his wife, Carmen Maria Rivera Newton; sons, Danny (Sherry) Newton, Scott Newton and Tony Newton; Daughters; Susan (Paul) Smith and Shirley Jones; Grandchildren, Tiffany Newton, Daniel Newton, Morgan Newton, Adam Newton, Tyler Coffman; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Newton is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Mildred Denney, Thelma Mauldin and Odell Newton.
