Mr. Earl Shadden

Mr. Earl Shadden, age 87 of the Swearengin Community passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Earl was born and raised in Rhea County, Tennessee, where he learned early the value of hard work. While employed at a sock mill in Chattanooga, he met the woman who would become the love of his life, Sue Pritchett. Their courtship was brief, but their bond was enduring—they married on September 7, 1959, beginning a partnership that lasted 58 years until her passing on October 5, 2017. In 1966, he moved to Alabama, where he built a life rooted in family, faith, and honest labor. He retired from Halsted-Mitchell, but retirement never slowed him down. He later worked on water well pumps, always willing to lend his hands and skills to anyone who needed help. Earl found great joy in gardening and farming, especially in raising his cattle. He loved working on vehicles and could often be found under the hood of a truck or tinkering with something mechanical. Baseball brought him great enjoyment, and he was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Earl also loved to play the guitar. He received the Holy Ghost at New Hope Holiness Church and remained a faithful member of Oak Grove Holiness Church. Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Derrell Shadden (Jetta), Wade Shadden (Deedie), and Steven Shadden; his grandchildren, Amber Smith (Shawn), Miranda Baugh (Rodney), Todd Shadden (Candace), Jody Lee Shadden (Lauren), Noah Shadden (Christina), and Cassadi Shadden (Anthony); great grandchildren, Justin Baugh, Jonah Baugh, Marissa Baugh, Hayleigh Shadden, Ava Shadden, Zilah Chapman (Carson), Addison Shadden, Emma Shadden, and Wylla Rose Shadden; his sister, Barbara Ann Gravitt; and many much loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Pritchett Shadden; parents, Fred & Dellia Shadden; great granddaughter, Raelynn Shadden; and brother, Robert Shadden. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2026 at Grant Memorial Chapel with Bro. Nicky Willmon and Bro. Barry Pritchett officiating. Burial will follow in New Prospect Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Grant Memorial Chapel from 4-8 p.m.
