Mr. Homer Clinton Russell

Homer Clinton Russell, a beloved husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday March 14th surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 80. He was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord and lived his life with kindness and compassion. Homer found joy in the great outdoors, often spending his days basking in the sunshine on his back porch. He cherished the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep love for fishing and could often be found by the water, enjoying the tranquility it brought him as well as listening to his favorite music. Homer was born on March 19, 1944 in Cloud's Cove to Henry Lee & and Mary Jane Russell. Homer proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Lexington from 1964 to 1968 in the engine room. After his service, he continued to contribute to his community and worked at both Revere Copper & Brass, and Lozier as a forklift driver for over 50 years before retiring. He also ran his landscape service for many years during that time. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering with his toys, always finding ways to bring joy to those around him. He had a gift for storytelling, sharing tales from his past that captivated the hearts of everyone around him. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Wanda Russell; his two daughters, Michelle Pickett and Melissa McGee (Josh); his six grandchildren, Marisa Ray (Al), Christopher Wade (Khynia), Jessica McGee, Skylar Cardin, Sara Gray (Braxton), and Jonas Russell; his six great-grandchildren, Athena, Paisley, Titus, Oakley, Asher, and Theadore; his sisters, Brenda Crisson (Bob) and Linda Ponder (Donnie); and many nieces and nephews. Awaiting his arrival home are his son Jonathan Russell, his dad Henry Russell, his mom Mary Russell, his brothers Ernest Lee Buchanan, Kenneth Russell, Glenn Russell, Richard Lee Russell, Eldridge Russell, Donald Russell, and his sister Melba (AJ) Starnes. As his final request, Homer asked that on this day, we share our love for Jesus and invite each of you to open your hearts to Him. He encouraged everyone not to leave today without embracing Gods love. Homer will be remembered for his warm spirit, love for the outdoors, fishing, music, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, laughter, and love that will last forever. A service to celebrate a life well lived will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Grant 1st Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service in New Prospect Cemetery in the Swearengin Community. Friends may visit with the family and pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 5-8 p.m. He will lie-in-state at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of his service.
