Mrs. Shirley Evett Edmonds

Shirley Edmonds was born on February 6, 1970, in Scottsboro, Alabama. She was the second born of Ranzy and Mary Evett. She is survived by her mother, Mary Evett; son, Maston (Shelby) Edmonds; daughters, McKayla (Ethan) Hodges and Madison Edmonds (Taylor Glover); sister, Becky (Jeff) Guffey; brother, Randy (Paige) Evett; grandson, Jay Edmonds; unborn granddaughter, Emmy Lou Edmonds; nephews, Nathaniel (Stephanie) Guffey, Zachary (Alex) Guffey, and Lake Evett; nieces, Brittney (Morris) Miotke, Langley Evett, and Lauren Evett; and a number of great nieces and nephews, Ranzy, Boyd, Maddox, Everley, Paisley, Oaklyn, and Owen. She is preceded in death by her father, Ranzy Evett; grandparents, Jim and Myrtle Evett; and grandparents, Thomas and Beatrice McClendon. Shirley was a 1988 graduate of DAR High School, going on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Athens State University and her master’s degree from Jacksonville State University. She began her career in education as a teacher, spending many years teaching history, and later finishing her career as a middle school vice principal. Shirley battled with her health for a number of years, which created many obstacles and challenges, but despite her circumstances, they never stopped her from enjoying life and her time with family. Anyone who knew Shirley knows that she loved each individual member of her family and friends unconditionally- being fully present, showing up to every birthday, family gathering, and event despite her medical challenges. Most importantly she loved God and her faith remained constant. It was her purpose to glorify God and love others intentionally. She had remaining piece of written advice to share: “Always keep God as #1 in your life! He is the only one that can bring you the comfort you need each and every time you need it. He will always be there for you.” Shirley, beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and aunt; teacher to many; and friend to everyone. She lived and loved well. A service celebrating her life will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Grant First Baptist Church. Dr. Steve Stanfield will officiate. Keith Stanfield, Maston Edmonds, and McKayla Hodges will also share. Friends may visit with the family at the Grant First Baptist Church from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday. After the service, burial will follow in Center Point Cemetery in Scottsboro. The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to KDS DAR School for technology enhancements in the middle school or to the Grant First Baptist Church.
